There’s a lot of satisfaction in gaining a skill, and much fun to be had along the way.
Adults tend to be active learners in the process of studying piano and in many ways have a step up from younger students…
- You may find yourself asking a lot of questions because you’re able to relate experiences
- You’re can understand whole concepts, and not just brief points – which allows you to actually learn more quickly in the beginning. It’s much easier for adults to grasp abstract concepts like notation and translate them into hand movements. So when it comes to comprehending music, it’s an advantage to be older and wiser. You learn much faster by understanding, not by relying on trial and error.
- You have stronger and more agile fingers than the average child
- If you have studied music at a younger age, it may surprise you how easily your prior knowledge returns
- Many adults enjoy exploring their creative side in addition to their professions. Playing piano is a nice release from your busy work day, an escape from the stresses of life, a goal you’ve wanted to pursue for years, or perhaps even an activity to counteract the effects of ageing.
- One of the surest ways to get your young child interested in music is to be engaged with it yourself.
Adult piano lessons offer a pressure-free environment. Scheduling is different than for school-aged students. I recommend for adults to come for an hour lesson on the fortnight – allowing us the time to get more in depth with each lesson while also offering flexibility to the busy adult timetable. As a result of wanting to maintain this flexibility I have a schedule-as-you-go and pay-as-you-go system in place for adults – but usually it’s still the same day of the week around the same time on the fortnight.
